Flaxseed oil cold-pressed is among the foods that are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially alpha-linolenic acid (omega 3) and linoleic acid (omega 6). These essential fatty acids must be taken with food as the body is unable to produce them. A varied and balanced diet should provide sufficient quantities, but with today's food formats in many cases, a diet of this kind remains a theoretical intake of omega-3 and omega-6. Average consumption of fish, nuts, legumes, sunflower oil, and corn oil often do not suffice to ensure a normal proper intake of these nutrients.
